The morning after New Year’s celebrations, nothing hits the spot better than a Bloody Mary. Long a brunch-time staple, recipes for the cocktail are as varied as the people who enjoy them, blending the sophistication of tradition with the unmistakable avor of the South.
Alabama is home to Mary master Willy Grey, or “Whiskey Willy,” of Orange Beach. He developed his own unique mix in the 1980s by experimenting with di erent ingredients until he hit upon a hands-down winner. He bottled his concoction and marketed it to a now-nationwide audience of appreciative Bloody Mary fans whose only choices until then had been supermarket options that, Willy says, lacked the well-rounded avor of a good homemade drink.
